BIG ISLAND UKULELE GUILD ANNUAL EXHIBIT
Where: Wailoa Arts and Cultural Center, 200 Piopio St., Hilo

Details: The formal opening will feature live music, pupus and a drawing for a free ukulele. This exhibit, which featured more than 50 handmade instruments last year, also will feature other invitational pieces from woodworkers around the island, including furniture, sculpture and turned bowls. Show is open 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through Oct. 29. The public is invited to join in the fun for the formal opening or come see the show throughout the month and vote for their favorite ukulele for the People’s Choice Award. PANIOLO DAY — A 100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF KAHILU HALL AT PARKER SCHOOL

Details: Built in 1915, this building has continually served the Waimea community throughout the last century, including as rest and relaxation for Parker Ranch staff, a town library, USO for soldiers during World War II, dance hall and a general gathering place for meetings, committees and Parker Ranch Christmas parties. Celebration activities will include talk-story with local historians, vintage photo displays, saddle and lei making, tours by student docents and a short film on the history of Parker Ranch. In addition, attendees will enjoy music and entertainment, a cooking demonstration and interactive games for kids. Free.
